How do you define your success in life? This is something that I have been struggling with. I’m definitely happy and I am glad I chose the career I did but for some reason I always feel that the work I do is unsuccessful. My career is important to me and I’m always wanting to better myself but I think this leads me to feel unsuccessful.

I read a post on Seth Godin’s blog the other day that made me think about this even more. It read……

Are you better at what you do than you were a month or two ago?

A lot better?

How did you get better? What did you read or try? Did you fail at something and learn from it? Does that mindless stuff you do at work when the boss isn’t looking (or all those meetings you go to are all those emails you answer) make you better or just pass the time?

If you got better faster, would that be a good thing? How could you make that happen?

Unfortunately I don’t feel that I’m better at what I do than I was a month ago or even a year ago. As a designer how do I better myself? Obviously I feel that the more I better myself the more successful I will be. I’m curious to know what other designers do to better themselves and also what makes them feel successful. Taking a class or attending a seminar is probably not enough to better yourself. That may be good for some inspiration but does it really make you better at your designing?

Does success come from creating a certain type of project, campaign or presentation or is something more than these things.
